after 15 seconds of more walking, the same car comes back around

window is rolled down, music still blaring. it’s james franco

james: (obnoxious screaming) hey maaaan! you o.k??!

the boy: (emotionless) i’m fine

james: oh shiiit you’re [edit]’s kid, man he threw the best parties! how’s he doing these days?

birds fly overhead. james stares at the boy

james: sh-t, well, anything i can do?

the boy: man i just need a smoke and some in-n-out

int.- empty parking lot overlooking city; night

the boy and james sit in the car with their burgers, eating in comfortable silence

the boy: do you ever just feel alone? separate? like you are watching yourself live but not living? like you have all the friends, all the things- they would make everyone else happy- but you just aren’t?

james: all the time

the boy: how do you make it go away?

james looks over and gives one of those sarcastic grin-smirks he always does, but his eyes seem sad

james: you don’t

the boy shrugs and bites into his burger

camera pans out slowly, focusing on the boy eating. camera pans until the whole empty parking lot is shown
