this is a story about scott merriman; the leukemia lad

once upon a time, there was a boy called scott
he met a sweet girl who he thought was hot
he thought she was divine, she was flawless all the time
she really blew his mind with her gorgeous little smile

they were hugging, they were kissing, they were always holding hands
scott always felt like the luckiest man
alive, so why did he always feel
it was too good to be truе, as if it wasn’t real?

rumour has it he was always doubtful
as if he knеw his rise would be followed by his downfall
bad times were coming, he felt it and he knew it
a sinister storm was definitely brewing

but he was happy, so he moved in with his girlfriend
together they was perfect, everything was working
they were moving forward, they were not reversing
but scott just knew something horrible was lurking

2016, close to his birthday
he was still young but getting closer to 30
august 26th, he turned 27
that’s when he started dreading where his life might be heading
‘cus everything changed, life became much colder
scott started feeling a pain in his shoulder
it hurt to be breathing, he was bruising and bleeding
his face was pale, he would snooze in the evening

and wake up sweating in the middle of the night
his muscles would cramp, and this was such a fright
he had a feeling inside that he was at his lowest
his spleen was enlarged but he didn’t even know it

pain everyday and pain every night
but he carried on with his life as if he was alright
as time went past, things were getting worse
it would sting and it would hurt, he was living with a curse

the pain was unbearable, he really didn’t want to
admit it to himself that he had to see a doctor
but he knew he did, and this annoyed him
so, he booked himself an appointment

later in the week, he went to see the doc
he was very nervous, he was sweating quite a lot
scott explained about the shoulder pain
he had it for a while and it won’t go away

plus, he told the doctor that, “it hurts when i breath
it hurts all the time and hurts when i sleep
it hurts when i move, it even hurts now”
the doctor looked at scott and said, “do you work out?”
scott replied, “yes! very, very often!”
doctor said, “hmm, uh, this could be the problem
i think you’ve probably pulled a muscle
come back soon if you keep having trouble”

scott went away thinking, “this was just pointless”
he wasted his time in this appointment
a week goes past, the pain is incredible
scott doesn’t know that he may just be very ill

so, he goes back to the doc
‘cus the pain that he’s going through has to be stopped
the doctor looked surprised to see scott again
scott’s like, “look, i don’t feel very well!

i’m not getting better and i can’t just rest!”
the doc says, “fine, we’ll do a blood test”
so, they take scott’s blood and they send it away
results will be back in a week, okay

one day later, scott is at work
and blood starts to squirt from his nose to his shirt
“what the h_ll is happening?!”, he asks himself
“what have i done that’s bad for my health?”

ring, ring, ring, the doctor is calling
scott just knows this is gonna be awful
he knows he has to answer, he knows it is important
but he’s very tempted to ignore it
he answers the phone and he hears
the doctors voice, and it fills him full of fear
the doc says, “scott, your results are back”
he sounds very serious, this could be bad

the doc says, “your white blood cells are high
this is abnormal, we need to find out why
so, go to the hospital very, very quick
once you are there, you’ll see a specialist”

scott put the phone down and started to worry
he left work quick ‘cus he knew he had to hurry
he jumped in his car and drove to the hospital
heart beating fast, now he knows that he’s probably ill

but he doesn’t know his life’s about to change
forever and ever, it will never be the same
he goes to the hospital, sweating and shaking
his nose is still bl__dy, his head is really aching

he sees the receptionist and says
“hi, i’ve come to see the specialist today”
they send him through to go and see the specialist
scott’s about to find out that he is very sick

the specialist doesn’t even beat around the bush
“we think you have leukemia by looking at your blood
we’ve gotta do a test, though, just to be sure”
scott just asks, “is there a cure?!”

the doc replies, “no, but it can be treated”
scott is very shocked, and his knees have weakened
but he’s still smiling though, ‘cus he isn’t beat yet
scott’s confident that he won’t be defeated

they send scott away to lancaster
to go and do a test to detect if it’s cancer
it’s a bone marrow biopsy test
what they do here’s stick a tool through your flesh

into your hip bone, just like an arrow
then they simply suck out the marrow
this is pretty painful, it’s not very fun
scott’s like, “oh well, it’s got to be done”

now he’s gotta wait for results to come back
scott spends a week worrying about that
december 14th, results are in
scott’s at the hospital once again

the specialist says, “you’ve got leukemia
so now we need to talk about how we will be treating ya’
take this dasatinib every single day
this should keep the leukemia at bay

have regular blood tests whenever we say
if you get a temperature, come and see us right away”
the nurse told scott that, “it’s gonna be ok
try and be positive and do not be afraid”

fast forward to today, scott is still alive
he did not die, he managed to survive
plus, he got married to that girl that is sweet
and when he married her, his world was complete

together they’re a team, together they’re amazing
living the dream, no matter what they’re facing
scott’s happy to be living, plus he’s very grateful
he has some side effects from the medication

bone pain, sickness, plus he is fatigued
weak immune system from this troubling disease
he’s gotta be careful not to catch infection
so, he stays strong and fit and that is a prevention

every 8 weeks, he’s back to the hospital
for a blood test and to collect another box of pills
this is his life, so he is embracing it
he’s not running from the cancer but he’s facing it

even though he knows the cancer could develop
the tablets could fail as if there is an error
he’s still living life and he’s loving it a lot
and he tries to motivate all the others who are not

‘cus there’s people that are down, so he tries to pick them up
there’s people on the ground, so he tries to lift them up
inspiring the world is always on his mind
so, he made a rap album and called it:
