1.) for the people who don’t know who you are how would you introduce yourself?

i’m a woman of many names. some know me by cat, some by yoko, some by pucci but i finally found the real me, burnout. i’d like to introduce myself as burnout but who knows who i’ll be in the future. i’m just a girl following her dreams despite what people think because you only live once why not do what you want to do?

2.) when did you begin making music or getting into?

so growing up my parents were immigrants from west africa. specifically sierra leone. my father playеd drums and sang lead in a band and would have my brother on stagе with him sometimes. we were both really young when he quit the band to focus on our family but his drumset and cds were always around. when i was 5 i noticed i could hold a little bit of a note but didn’t feel comfortable sharing it with anyone other than my best friend when i was 8. her name was erica goodman and boy could she sing, cheetah girls was out at the time so we formed a group in school emulating that. i moved and couldn’t keep in contact but around like 12 i would write songs in my room and perform them using a vacuum as a mic with my little sister. i just started taking music more serious as of recently because of a near death experience but it’s been pretty present throughout my entire life

3.) how did you get your artist name?

i named myself burnout because i’ve been on survival mode for my entire life. also to reference fire because i feel like a phoenix that rose from the ashes of what was supposed to be their demise. man have i been through it all and been fighting things you’d never imagine since birth. i don’t look like what i’ve been through and for that im insanely grateful

4.) what are your goals in music, what do you think you’ll be able to achieve?

my goals in music is to put out a message that’s true to me. to get in the studio and let my emotions out and hope it translates to help someone else. i make really soothing calm dreamy music, so i’d like listeners to kick back and be taken to another place when listening but also help those who feel alone in their problems find a safe place to feel their emotions without judgement. as far as the other things like fame and money lol i wouldn’t be mad at it if it came with the package deal

5.) who are some artist’s that inspire your sound and do you think where you live/grew up influenced your sound?

for sound it’s def a wide spectrum but i would say def artist that have their own specific sound like mj, erykah badu, lauryn hill, the weeknd when he was more underground, india arie because she was saying some real things, corinne bailey rae, tame impala, sampha, tyler the creator, blood orange & yves tumor, kelela. i admire other artists for their resiliency in life tho like 50 cent being shot 9 times and still living & nicki minaj thriving off pure talent despite everyone trying to drag her constantly. being an underdog i feel is like something to really be proud of. i grew up in atlanta so i guess being an atlien (shoutout outkast) inspired me to embrace the things that were different about me

6.) music’s diversity in sound has expanded so much more recently, what makes you different?

what makes me different my authenticity. im not trying to follow anyone’s lane or pander. im staying true to what i like and who i am. i just make what sounds good to me. i actually like my own music & i’m not trying to be anyone else but myself nor trying to ride anyone’s wave. i’m just here & glad to still be here with y’all considering my life lmao

7.) who are your dream features?
not gonna lie, tyler the creator! or def sampha or blood orange and of course the favs mentioned prior like the weeknd, lauryn hill, erykah badu, nicki minaj, tame impala, yves tumor, ojerime, kelela . honestly i could go on and on

8.) what is one thing you love about making music and what is one thing you hate?

well i love to sing, it’s my happy place so making music and my creative process is what i truly love. like when i hear a good beat thats specific to me i’m so motivated. the thing i hate is the process of getting it out there. sometimes i’ll announce a drop and they’ll be technical difficulties getting it out and now i look like carti lol haha

9.) before we end our interview please elaborate anything else you’d like about yourself or promo for any upcoming projects your dropping soon!

the only thing i ask of the world is patience & an open mind. im a growing artist and i grow a little each day. i’d like to grow with my fans along the way to wherever i’m headed. the world thrives on so many things but love is what any and everyone needs. also don’t be afraid to say you’re a fan of your friends! love each other that’s what we’re here for. i’m currently working on an ep but i’m in no rush. stream stream steam what i already got though! good things come to those who wait. lol i think i’ve said enough
