well half white and african who ever ran for presidential office and got it
inspired the country with the whole world watchin’
brought hope to black folks like malcolm and martin
on the strength of your skin color and an empty promise
but for black folks the unemployment rate’s the highest
like the drop out rate and neighborhood violence
barack i gotta ask, why couldn’t you have just spoken up for oscar grant?!
you think the very first black leader would’ve stepped up and freed mumia
or spoke on racism and the fact it still existed
from the schools to the streets to the prison – but you ain’t done sh-t man
except give the world false hope
got me feelin’ like why the f-ck i even vote
cuz every president we ever had been the same
lyin’ to the people and playin’ the game
i know you ain’t to blame cuz you just a puppet
but for a second i thought that you might’ve really stood for something
but you didn’t so this letter has an unhappy ending
