walking further into town, see a construction site
we head right through it without thinking what might
happen if we did, and then giggles screams
startled, we ask her what the scream means

she points at the ground, there’s a fallen brick there
it had missed her by inches when it fell through the air
from the top of the building, handy waves apologetically

after that close call, we head back where we went
