not understanding why death is life’s ending
constantly asking if god’s love was pending
we learned about suffering and grief in those years
but i know the lord was there to wipe up our tears

growing up young i had a lot of trauma
my granddad fell hit his and in a coma
few days later he met his maker
i was introduced to death the soul taker

had 2 cousins named jenny and danny
few years apart with an identical disease
faithfully they did what they could to please
they loved the lord, and were a blessing

that’s why when they died
my family cried and cried
we thought the world ended
couldn’t believe that they weren’t alive

grama mad at the lord for taking their souls
they were so young, barley 13 years old
jenny went first and danny followed after
i’ll never forget the tears never forget the laughter

sitting in that parlor with a kids suit on
next to my cousin and crying in his arm
i never thought the tears would end
and in a small way they never did

i was close to my gramma on my daddy side
she was an awesome cook with a better smile
she taught me to play gin an old maid
even better was her homemade lemonade

that’s why when she fell sick i couldn’t understand
i sat by her bed and held her hand
she told me a story but it didn’t make sense
the meds she was on making her lose grip

that’s the last memory of my gramma tho
laying in a bed with tubes out her nose
not very good for a young kids memory
i just pray that her soul is free

tragedy struck my family when i was young
took our daughter and took our sons
but now i know they’re living with the one
but at the time i didn’t know the son

sometimes god puts in our life obstacles
to test our faith not to make us his specticals
god doesn’t give us anything we can’t manage
trust me man just look at my vantage
