[verse 1: thomas burgundy]

floating through this sea of uncertainty
i swear that radio was a lifesaver
the first time i fell was 2003
if it wasn’t for the music, never woulda made it
started with kirk franklin singing me to sleep
neck hurting, can’t comfy in this back seat
older brother looking out the window wide awake
in his head he’s keeping momma safe, she’s finally sleep
11 years old, he’s the man of the house
but we ain’t even got a house, he just can’t be a child
so we memorized 13 different addressеs
by the age of 14 somewhеre i lost count
after all them years i saved up 56 dollars
woke up one morning just to 7 cents
i hope my auntie’s 30 minute high was worth it
’cause i been fighting paranoia ever since
these bags under my eyes carry all my fears
i ain’t had a good night sleep it’s been what, 20 years?
everything that i’ve suppressed gets louder in my dreams
i told myself it could be worse, n_gga just persevere
(that helped me persevere)
and my headphones took me where i wanted to be
no one told me all that rain was just to water the seeds
god gave me pomegranates, but forgot the knife
but two hands, and h_lla patience is all i ever needed
[pre_chorus: thomas burgundy]
now my fingers are so tired
all my fingers so tired
but they never too tired
no they never too tired
to lose sight of what they’ve never ever seen
i never had a knife, but i’ll enjoy these pomegranate seeds

[chorus: thomas burgundy & essence]
can you see them?
see them shining through
bl__dy seeds
i see them shining through
was it worth it?
only time will tell
fingers hurting
but i found the jewels

can you see them?
see them shining through
bl__dy seeds
i see them shining through
was it worth it?
only time will tell
fingers hurting
but i found the truth
{verse 2: thomas burgundy]
see i could point fingers but they’re too tired
i never move forward when i choose sides
look around you, everybody goin through a trial
my victim complex got too crowded, moved out
and only marriage i could count on was cause & effect
my expectations taught me what not to expect
pops said, life is 10% what happen to you, other 90%’s
how you react to it
so dear pops, i apologize for magnifying family business
rain falls on us all, we just handle it different
these pictures that i paint, _n_lyzed from a distance
as you move in closer, may the brightest colors be forgiveness
’cause when i look you in your eyes, i see wisdom
i no longer see you as your past decisions
i just see a man who deserves what he was given
that’s a second chance to plant seeds for his children
so i
thank you for your style of education
thank you for being my truest source of motivation
thank you for teaching me preparation in patience
you made me feel like anything is for the taking
i don’t take that for granted
see, growing up i used to afraid of you
then overtime became afraid that i’d become you
now i’m afraid i won’t be half the man you are
if i don’t follow in this new path you’ve set for me, i love you
pops i love you
[pre_chorus: thomas burgundy]
but still my fingers are so tired
all my fingers so tired
but they never too tired
no they never too tired
to lose sight of what they’ve never ever seen
i never had a knife, but i’ll enjoy these pomegranate seeds

[chorus: thomas burgundy & essence]
can you see them?
see them shining through
bl__dy seeds
i see them shining through
was it worth it?
only time will tell
fingers hurting
but i found the jewels

can you see them?
see them shining through
bl__dy seeds
i see them shining through
was it worth it?
only time will tell
fingers hurting
but i found the truth

[outro: fragments of violeta parra sample:]
gracias a la vida, que me ha dado tanto
madre, amigo, hermano y luz alumbrando
la ruta del alma del que estoy amando”

(leora mirai: radio host)

you are in the middle of the everything is everything morning show
and the question of the day is
if you could go back and tell your younger self something
that they really needed to hear
what would you tell them?
(323) 917_2044

sabriya: (caller)
hi, this is sabriya from south gate
long time listener, first time caller
listening to your show always reminds me i’m not alone
i feel like we’re all the same person sometimes

(leora:)
that’s ’cause we are
so, what are you telling your younger self?

(sabriya:)
i would say
that patience is your strongest attribute
your ability to remove emotions from any circumstance
and not become one with your environment
is going to take you very far
and i know you can’t see it right now
but just think of life like a pomegranate
you spend all this time trying to open it up
you know the peel is very thick
and getting through it is tough
especially when you don’t have a knife
and it could be messy
and once you finally get it open
you see these tiny little seeds shining back at you
you’re thinking was it even worth it?
but there’s something about that difficult process
that makes it taste so much sweeter
because, it seems like only through the struggle
you’re able to see and appreciate the result
honestly, if i could go back and change anything about my life
mm_mm, i wouldn’t
because it all made me who i am today
and i wouldn’t take that chance
no, no
the sun will come out any second
just wait on it
what do you always say leora?

(leora:)
keep weathering the storm

(sabriya:)
that’s right, keep weathering the storm
as you’re keeping your head above water
especially this year, 2011
allow yourself to feel
feel the rain on your face
your hands
your skin
allow yourself, give yourself permission
or soon you won’t be able to feel anything at all
