[tim wise]

here’s the reality
the image of a white jesus has been used to justify
enslavement, conquests, colonialism
the genocide of indigenous peoples
there are literally millions of human beings whose lives
have been snuffed out by people who conquered under
the banner of a white god

[alan watts]

now, quest around a bit, ask yourself this
for what reason would a person be considered hopelessly insane?
what, uh, sort of claims must a person simply not make?
well, there is one, and that is if anybody claims that he is god
and as this becomes clear to you, it’s rather shaking

[verse 1: tha capital g]

in 1915, the birth of a nation
portrayed black men as violent rapists
and the ku klux klan as heroes and saviors
miseducation for generations
caucasians in blackface, it was some lame sh_t
hundred five years later, we deal with same sh_t
hollywood is to blame, it’s still so racist
it’s 2020 now, past due for a facelift
april reign, #oscarssowhite
oh she was so right, yo we need our own night
la la land better wake up and see the moonlight
parasite swept the awards, read the room, whites
they told viola davis she’s the black meryl streep
i doubt their paying meryl streep that cheap
same career trajectory, all the same degrees
but different st__z, jeez hollywood, pay black women please
[hook: tha capital g]

jesus was a black man with dreads
his name wasn’t jesus, you heard what i said
hair like wool, skin like bronze
he looked like snoop, not like the fonz
oh my gosh everything’s whitewashed
oh my gosh everything’s whitewashed
oh my gosh everything’s whitewashed
there’s no such thing as a white god

jesus was a black man with dreads
his name wasn’t jesus, you heard what i said
burnt brass feet, skin like bronze
not pistol pete, more like lebron
oh my gosh everything’s whitewashed
oh my gosh everything’s whitewashed
oh my gosh everything’s whitewashed
there’s no such thing as a white god

[verse 2: tha capital g]

sister rosetta tharpe invented rock n’ roll
a queer black woman with a rockin’ soul
she was a star but jim crow was in control
it was black women’s music that the white men stole
years before elvis
was humping on underage girls with his pelvis
little richard was rock n rolling so rebellious
but different skin color, so they tried to shelve this
rock was whitewashed, so we let them have it
then we created hip_hop and they got mad at it
they called fbi when ice cube said f_ck the police
but they still wanna get down with these rhymes and these beats
so we let them in because we’ve always been welcoming
at least we got paul wall, mac miller, eminem
2014 noms, good kid, m.a.a.d city was in
macklemore? you gave the grammy to him?!
sorry but his album ain’t belong in that stack
funny he won it when the other nominees were black
they whitewashed rock and they’ve been trying to do rap
since vanilla ice, but nah, we ain’t rollin’ with that
tia norfleet, bubba wallace, we rollin’ with that
whew chile, simone biles, ain’t no holding her back
black people invented ice hockey, bro that’s a fact
i won’t stand for your flag, nope! i’m rollin’ with kap

[tim wise]

but at the end of the day
the image that has been used to dominate christianity
in this world and on this planet is the white image
so therefore you can believe, you_you can think
jesus looks like whatever you want
or that chris looks like whatever you want
ultimately though, there is such a thing as power
and it’s not equitable and so if certain people
have been able impose their image of the christ
of the savior on others, or god, or adam and eve
“the first human beings” ostensibly as white people
to believe that doesn’t have an effect
is to believe that advertising doesn’t have an effect
it’s to believe that companies that spend billions of dollars
don’t actually sell you stuff based on the images they use
which is nonsense
