and then back
and then ride into the sunset

and i am wondering
do black chicks get rescued?
if i sit alone in the forest
allow myself to slip into a daydream
will a unicorn lay it’s head in my lap
i wanna be an african cinderella

flowing dress made of gossamer
and dance barefoot on marble floors
the clock strikes twelve and i race to my carriage
leaving behind one golden sandal
the only clue to my true ident-ty

moving through morning traffic

while singing existential theme songs from children’s movies
no ones knows i’m a black girl dreaming

corny -ss poems aren’t supposed to appeal to me

fantasies not meant for me
i’m a strong black woman
romantic love is supposed to be impractical to me
i am a black woman
i show up
but sometimes i am still missing
