once upon a time, a bear lived alone with his family. when his children grew up, they were not exactly good. they ate too many marshmallows, they broke too many toys and they left dirty plates in the sink. the bear had to teach his children a lesson

“you have become very, very naughty,” said the bear. “i’ll tell you what you must do. you must live in a cave, and you must be responsible. i’ll give you six days to work, and every day you must choose onе of your chores. on the sevеnth day, i will decide what you will get for all your hard work.”

the first night, the children asked, “what’s a chore?”

“a chore is something that must be done even if you don’t like it,” said the bear. “tomorrow, you must choose a chore and start working. if you’re not finished by noon, you’ll have to do your chores in the afternoon.”

so the next day, they went to bed, but they couldn’t sleep. they worried about what their chores would be, and they kept waking up. finally, the bear said, “boys, get a move on.”

so, in the morning, the three sons woke up early and went to the kitchen. they were worried about their chores because they didn’t know what they would be, but the father told them, “we have to remember that the worst things are those we do for love. i’ll do your chores for you. i’ll help you work, but you will clean up everything.”

the first chore was to go to the kitchen and bring the children their breakfast. they didn’t know what to do, so they started washing the dishes. after that, they had to make a bed and they had to hang up their clothes. then they cleaned the cave and did their chores

at lunchtime, the mother asked, “what have you done?”

“we cleaned the cave,” the children said

“good,” she said, “now go to your room and study until it’s time to eat dinner.”

the sons didn’t know what to do next, so they just sat and waited for their mother to come home. when they heard her arrive, the father told them, “you did great.”

the first evening, the children slept in their rooms. when it was bedtime, the father told them, “get your clothes on and go to your room.” they knew what was coming, but they did as they were told

that night, the father told the mother, “you did great with them. they’re becoming very obedient.”
the next day, the father started all three children working. they didn’t know what to do, but they were really afraid that they were going to be doing the most awful chores. “how can we learn if we don’t try it?” said the father. “and, we’re doing the best chores we can think of.”

“but how are we supposed to study?” said the mother

“we’re going to get the boys to study in the middle of the day,” he said. “they need to get used to doing chores in the middle of the day.”

at lunchtime, the father and the boys got ready to go out. as soon as they left, the mother said, “i’ll go too.” so, they went to their friends’ cave. when they got there, the father brought the sons in to see the whole family

“this is my husband, and these are my sons.” she showed the friends what she was wearing and introduced the children

“wow, you must be really careful,” said the father’s friends. “i hope you’ll be careful too.”

“they’re very obedient,” said the mother

“wow,” said the father’s friend, “they look like good workers.”

the father’s friend said to his friends, “i’m the father, and these are my sons. they’re good workers. they’re learning discipline and responsibility. let’s go outside.”

the father and the boys went outside and played in the sand for awhile. then, they went to his friend’s cave. “let’s watch some movies.”

the mother didn’t know what to do, but they went out. then, they played with the children and went home. the father and the boys had to do their chores

“boys, the first time is a small test. let’s see how you do,” the father said. “it’s easy, and you’ll be doing it more and more as the weeks go by.”

so, that night, they all went to bed, and the mother got ready for bed too. “boys, tomorrow is my turn to go out with your father and do his chores,” she said
“what’s a chore?” they asked

the next day, they went to bed, and the father came and told them to get ready. “are you ready?” he said. “let’s go.”

so, the father went with his children to their friend’s cave. they played in the sand for awhile and they went home. then, they all went to bed

the next morning, the mother was ready to go out. they asked her what chores she would be doing, and the father told her, “you’ll be picking up the children from school.”

“that’s easy,” she said

“you have to pick up all their things,” he told her. “you must be very careful. you’re really responsible for these children. you’ll probably have to stay with them for awhile.”

at lunchtime, the father and the mother got ready to go out. “let’s go and watch movies.” so, they went to the friend’s cave and watched movies and played. then, they went home

that night, the father told the mother, “let’s go out. you’ll do your chores.”

“what chores?” the boys asked

“you’re responsible for all the children in the world. you must help them with everything,” he said. “you have to take them to the park. you have to walk them in the park. you have to pick them up and take them back. you have to get their homework done, and you must watch them while they’re watching tv.”

that night, the mother got ready and went to bed. the boys stayed in their room, and the father went with his friends

when they went out, the mother did everything she was supposed to. she took them to the park, she took them to school, and she walked them home. she went with them to watch tv. she even helped them do their homework. “you’ve done an amazing job,” the father’s friends said
the next morning, the father woke them up. “get up,” he said. “get dressed. i’m going to take you to a store so you can buy some toys.”

the boys didn’t know what to do. so, they just got dressed and got in the car. they were surprised to see the father doing his chores, but he had a lot of good surprises for them

the first thing he did was give them all the chores they were supposed to do. he made them clean the cave, and they cleaned the cave. “wow, you did a good job,” said the mother

“it’s easy,” said the father, “but you have to do it every day. you’re doing an important job. if you do it well, i’ll give you a present.”

“a present?” the sons asked

“yes, a present,” he said. “you’re going to be good workers, and you deserve some rewards. you’ll clean and you’ll help all the children.”

that day, they cleaned the cave and the neighbors’ cave. they did their chores and they went to school. then, they went to the store with the father and bought toys

at night, they all went to bed. they weren’t afraid of their chores anymore, so they went to sleep
