johnny marches along with his comrades and his drum
not knowing now that he’s playing his last song

around the bend…the enemy’s waiting there
and they’ll attack poor johnny, can he care
now comes the battle and the time to fight
thе war goes on with every battlеs plight
now johnny’s hit…his drum falls from his side

now the drums alone for the poor boy now has died

an hour passes the bodies lie alone
like empty sh_lls and still like rocks and stones

and all alone on a battlefield of green
sits a tattered drum, and we know what it has seen
