verse 1:
i’m_a be…
plain and clear so ya don’t misunderstand me. hip
hop never has, never will win a grammy
tat_face the new blackface, go back to mammy. or
listen to doc, call me pops, the og in the fam’ly. it
didn’t start with biggie, pac, wu, nas, or slim. it was
kool herc, get with it if you don’t know him
and mc’s were never ‘round ‘til the djs birthed the sound
now there’s only rappers while the djs pushed underground, but hip
hop ain’t just a sound, hip hop’s a mentality. hip
hop ain’t the dream, hip hop’s the reality. ‘bout
boostin’ your community, not boostin’ your salary. ‘bout
livin’ logical, not livin’ in ignorance or fallacies. hip
hop ain’t the “game”, hip hop is the war. not about
disrespectin’ wh0res, or the records and tours. it’s ‘bout
__tearin’ down those walls and kickin’ down doors. it’s ‘bout
feedin’ seeds, reformin’ ‘fore you go get yours. nah, hip
hop ain’t just the music, hip hop is the movement. we just
use it to announce how we’re making improvements. lil’
rap kids trapped, while heads all wonder where the groove went. we
measure worth in sk!lls, not how much that dude spent. and we don’t
need to relive the days of fades and africa medallions. but we
need a nation filled with less fans and more battalions. now
let me and z re_educate ya for a minute. to the
cynics say we mimic, we gon’ take you to the clinic

verse 2:
if hip_hop is just the music where you rhyme over beats. then it’s
already dead, ‘cause they still die in the streets. but we can
never be defeated or retreat when we meet on any
corner, start a cipher and get down for a week. but when
i was comin’ up, freestylin’ was unrehe_rs_d. and you
never, ever lip synch’d over your own verse. (again) you
never, ever lip synch over your own verse. (i mean) you
never lip synch over your own verse!

verse 3:
and you ain’t hip_hop the moment that you rhyme over rhythms. it’s when you
learn about the movement, how it grew from the beginnin’. then
craft your creativity to generate wisdom ‘bout the
reality of livin’ in a prison, it’s a given that you
catalyze your vision and react with activism, and
know that rappin’s is fine if it’s attackin’ the –isms. but
rappin’s just a fraction of what’s wrapped in backin’ rhythms. whether you
pushin’ all the boundaries or back to classicism. but if you
can’t rap, then scratch, or you can mix, or produce. or
be a b_boy, practice ya spins and ya loops. or get a
can, tag a train from the front to caboose. or fight for
justice, grab a megaphone and order the troops. or get a
mannequin, do fashion from shoes to designer suits. or start a
non_profit, and give the kids a place to cut loose. but what_
ever you all do, just remember this truth. hip
hop is in the soul, check the camp for the proof
