track 1 summer
nice little intro that breaks up each season well. makes it feel like this section will be hopeful. brings back memories of the good days of your childhood when you were carefree and there was still wonder in the world. straight up cried from nostalgia my 3rd time hearing it
9/10

track 2 mural
whooooooo! not a whole lot to say about this that hasn’t already been said. lupe drops in with what is quite possibly the greatest lyrical display of the decade. f-ckin straight up jaw dropping bars for like 8 minutes straight that never stops from effectively f-cking up your mind. what is even more amazing is the fact that lupe was able to spit all this in the booth with a crazy flow also. one of the best f-ckin songs of the decade right here
10/10

track 3 blur my hands
another huge song that i love from this album. first things first, the beat on this thing is heavenly and the minor switch up of the instrumental at the end is well placed and great. some people don’t seem to like the hook, but i thought that sebastian k!lled it and fit into the sound of the song well. lupe went on and dropped some real nice lyrics on this too
9/10

track 4 dots & lines
i love the core instrumental of this song because it has just the right amount of pop to it and it definitely is the best representation of the summer months. the lyricism is crazy on here two with all the mathematics talk and how it ties into the excellent hook. one of the few things that i didn’t like on the album was present on this song though. the motherf-ckin banjo i hated, i understand why it fits into the song, but i personally don’t f-ck with it
8.5/10

track 5 fall
another nice season interlude that once again feels like the upcoming season might be hopeful with the slightest bit of sadness thrown in there
8/10

track 6 prisoners 1 & 2
hot d-mn a one two punch of song that hits hard. part 1 has a super nice instrumental that has lupe spitting some of the nicest bars on the album imo and also has a great hook on it. the transition from part 1 to part 2 with the clanging cell doors to the huge beat on part 2 is awesome as well. i love how the concept of the song goes from the perspective of the prisoners in part 1 to their perspective of the prison guard (who is also a prisoner of sorts) in part 2. a really d-mn good listening experience here that is both hard and complex at the same time
10/10

track 7 body of work
once again another super awesome instrumental that has a beautiful hook that is provided by the lovely vocals of troi. the whole song is conceptual rapping about a beautiful woman which is of course the representation of hip hop. lots of cool rapping about the body and of course some really dense lyrics from lupe on this one. the saxophone solo at the end by terrance martin is dope as h-ll!!! a really great overall song right here
9.5/10

track 8 little death
the instrumental is great on this one too, i really love how the h-rns and drums go so well together on this song. the hook by nikki jean fits perfectly into the vibe of the songs with strong references to how we are slaves and gives me a bit of a stoner -rg-sm tbh. lupe is spitting some super dope sh-t on this as well with each verse being a different topic, going from s-x, to animal abuse, to the ineffectiveness of the justice system
9/10

track 9 no scratches
one of the prettiest instrumentals to be on the album so far. the guitar that comes in is perfect and the airy feel to the whole thing is just amazing. there is a nice concept to this song with the ups and downs of the relationship being mirrored by a car crash. the ending is g*nius because lupe is basically saying that they need to break up before they hit the wall/crash so they can both walk away without any scratches. g*nius!
9.5/10

track 10 winter
definitely the darkest seasonal interlude of the bunch. it gives you a sense of dread and that sh-t is about to hit the fan hardcore
9/10

track 11 chopper
lots of people were pretty divisive on this track but i really love the h-ll out of it tbh. the beat is probably one of the hardest instrumentals lupe has ever gotten on. the huge list of guest features is actually cool because the whole song feels like a huge hardcore cypher that feels part trap, part drill, and part lyrical. lupe absolutely k!lls the hook while sounding hard as f-ck on it. all the guests are great with varying flow and lupe k!lls it with the closing verse. the beat switch up at the very end is nice
9.5/10

track 12 deliver
this song is perfect for me in every f-ckin way. the beat is cool as h-ll and lupe k!lls it lyrically as usual, plus his flow on this song is just f-cking ridiculous. the whole concept of how the pizza man doesn’t come there anymore because of the environment and how the whole this is a symbol of the piece of man is just dope. a super powerful song and ty dolla sign add just the right amount of crooning to the track
10/10

track 13 madonna
godd-mn do i love the h-ll out of this track. it is a really chilling beat with the little electronic drops coming in here and there and just the slightest amount of auto-tune makes this sonically perfect. nikki jean is featured once again and has a very subtle part to the hook. lupe drops amazingly hard hitting lyrics that is conceptual and related the worry of mothers worried about their sons in the ghetto just like the virgin mary worried for her son jesus when he went to the cross. whole entire song is dope
10/10

track 14 adoration of the magi
the instrumental on this is one of the best on the tape with a great synth constantly running through it and some beautiful h-rns that come in after the hook, also feels like the most winter song yet. the hook itself is amazing with all of the allusions it makes to several different albums. another concept song that deals a lot with the visit of the magi to the baby christ. second song in a row that deals a lot with religious topics. the third verse lyrically slays!
10/10

track 15 they.resurrect.over.new
a great last song that has lots of video game references, with the biggest one being to the game tron. the whole song is about getting to the next level, and this song sure is on another level! troi gives a great bridge and soulo drops a feature that i actually enjoy. lupe goes hard as f-ck on this song and makes a great conclusion to the album. the electronic and video game atmosphere to this song is perfect as well
9.5/10

track 16 spring
a victorious last seasonal instrumental that is hopeful and sets up the rest of lupe’s career in the concept now that he is free to create on his own terms
9/10

so basically this album blew me the f-ck away! the whole concept of the meaning behind the seasong is great. summer being the early carefree symbol of lupe’s career when he was creative and free to rap about whatever he wanted. fall was the next step being f&l and the cool both great albums that had minor limitations on them with more hooks and stuff. winter was the biggest hold on lupe representing the lasers and f&l2 era where he didn’t have much control, the music is sad, depressing, and a little angry to show off this time period. the whole album then ends triumphantly with spring which is basically his own resurrection showing off his new-found creative freedom

yes this is a really dense album that has tons of religious themes and underlying topics in it that all relate back to a larger concept. i don’t know about the whole backwards thing yet, but it kind of makes sense in the proposed concept of religion. regardless, i like this more than the cool and i’m beginning to like this more than food and liquor

bottom line. a super dope album that is near perfect to me and will be hard to be topped for the rest of the year
