i grew up bumping chh
i’ve seen the expansion n transitions
the ups n downs
the influence n corruption
now days it’s a real, sensitive topic
i’ma share my view on it open n honest

christian rap is a part of my life
listening to it n doing it with the mic
but what’s going on just ain’t right
it started out with the sounds of outspoken eager believers tryna be n show the light
in a genre so sick yet glorified
they wanted to make a difference so they’d write
music that was inspired by the word n ultimately reflected christ
such a thing was unheard of at this point in time
who knew there’d by an audience to grow in size
god did a work but somewhere down the line
the rate of being truly unashamed declined
preaching the gospel was the aim in their prime
all of a sudden they felt too confined
“christian rapper” became a restrictive title most christian artists despised
jesus initially was the focus of their grind
outta nowhere deep inside
everything they represented n rhymed
was no longer how they wanted to be defined
on top of this distractions n obstacles have n continue to arise
they come out too flavorless to be salt n way too dimmed to shine
issues force some to align themselves with people or sides that go against what the scriptures provide
the christian walk is by faith but these guys need clearer sight
they tried to impact the world but ended up hypnotized
to the extent of compromise which undermines how we’re supposed convert not comply
chh ain’t dead but looking deeper it struggles to be healthy n alive
when it’s being trapped by all of the lies, preventing it to thrive
i wanna give my thoughts if you don’t mind
i’ve got a list of people who fit this subject
but i’d hate to create an upset
with that said i mean no disrespect but i don’t plan on cutting any of em slack
i don’t needa drop names to put em on blast
gospel rap is back well where’s it been at
i’ll tell you where it’s been off track
stacks of cash, racks of plaques, yakity yak similar like today’s trash
what they’re doing isn’t how a real christian acts
what they’re saying is literally cr_p
christian rap was founded n grounded on jesus but he’s what it lacks
don’t get me wrong a few remain on task
i’m referring to the ones who’ve had contact with the world where they detached
from the mission that put chh on the map
we can see it in their verbiage, in their posts, in their walk, in their craft
speaking as a fan it’s sad
actually what i am is disappointed n mad
no i’m not the first to address this
it’s obvious the music drifted from the message
but if it returns n the minds got fixed on the crucifixion n resurrection
if the vision is readjusted despite the high expenses
of being culturally accepted
if what the bible says is held above what media presses
if jesus is present then we who hear it should be able to sense it
it doesn’t have to be every single sentence but it’d be nice if he made the content checklist
faith is what you obtain when it’s given so when you possess it why suppress it?
sure it’s easier to let your guard down then keep up defenses
but when you hit the edges it tends to raise questions
christian artists n those associated have n will fail us so we mustn’t put em on a pedestal
they’ve become too flexible
their conduct n speech the opposite of commendable
i’ll admit it they’ve lost their way n their behavior is detestable
i’ve seen plentiful from these dudes who have me thinking like a skeptical
nonetheless i pick christian rap over the so_called “hits” of this age simply indigestible
with time i believe if the goal was to be more faithful, missional, intentional
chh wouldn’t have to revolve around what society deems conventional
it’s okay to be informed but not difficult to be conformed
to the worldly norms
no one is perfect we all fall short
but with god n the world we shouldn’t be back n forth
it’s important to stay in the sword to stay on course for the lord
in the end god knows the hearts
only he can judge we can pray hard
there’s gotta be more to these sick flows n bars
jesus christ has to be the spark
