verse 1:
i grew up outside chicago in a white town
with a white fam and a white block mostly white
friends on the blacktop in the school yard, on the
playground i’s the fat one i got picked on
most my friends were nerds, cuz i was real smart
cool kids only talked to me when they needed help
i took to makin people laugh, it’s a good start
never listened to music, i ain’t like how i felt
took a minute till i’m listening to hip hop
just drake and sh-t, till i got around to k
to pimp a b-tterfly was the best album i had ever heard
i felt like i could understand the struggles of another world
cuz i ain’t felt what it’s like to be a black man
but i feel for my brothers with the darker skin
i started writin raps, not thinkin if i actually can
not thinkin bout what it meant when i started it

verse 2:
i get conflicted when it comes to where i cross the line
i guess that it depends exactly where you’re standin
i stepped into a culture that i can’t understand
and now i’m tryna make a profit with some dope lines
i can’t emphasize enough that i don’t mean no harm
i’m not tryna stack the f-ckin deck of cards, but
i rap with slang, cuz it’s the natural form
i gotta pay my rent to keep my f-ckin body warm
i think a lot about whether i’m actually stealing
or if this is america’s culture, and i’m just partic-p-ting
i feel the guilt inside me, stackin to the ceiling
other times “i’m just a poet, and i’m not appropriating”
if you got answers, feel f-ckin free to let me know
i can’t sleep, so i been starin out my window
i go on night walks, even when it’s cold as sh-t
sometimes i wonder if it’s worth it, even going home
