lagos (lagos)
london (london)

i was born in london
all of a sudden i was sn-tched
by my mother
who to the motherland brought me back
the pain of separation led my heart to breaking
my soul shaken in a new direction taken
i was that young kid with a british accent
felt out of place or out of sp-ce back then
like et phoning home though i was home
but home is where the heart is
i felt alone
i made it back to the streets of london when i was grown
and though i’m not italian my dome roamed
’cause fish and chips cannot compare to suya
though obalende suya was in peckham man it fools ya
simply because obalende is far away
though the best of both worlds i get with every taste
don’t get it twisted i’m a naija boy
though i spend pound now, not naira boy

i won’t forget where i’m from
so far i have come
so far i have gone

i remember watching the fela musical
it really moved me man it was so beautiful
it took me back to the city of las gidi
aka lagos, i was transported swiftly
i remember playing football barefoot on the street
i can’t believe we played all day in the burning heat
the soundtrack of the street was afrobeat
it was a sad day when he died man it was deep
he wasn’t a saint but he spoke for the people
he was fearless and he spoke against evil
he created his own genre we still rock to
it makes me feel good inside like hot food
and now it’s mixed with hip hop the soundtrack of my youth
and now i bounce back in the booth
and at this time i’m announcing to you
that no matter what i am proud of my roots

i won’t forget where i’m from
so far i have come
so far i have gone

so here i am in the present a british citizen
asking myself if i would ever live again
in the place that helped raise me
though london saw me first as a baby
i still love pounded yam and egusi
i still rock to the jams of fela kuti
a part of me will always feel i belong there
but i also feel i belong here
so i wrote this song here
inspired by a song from there
hope it touches someone somewhere
and i represent i will not fear
blood sweat and tears is how i got there
i haven’t arrived, i haven’t gone clear
i’m on my way though, i’m moving strong here
this is my tale of two cities
big up ldn and las gidi

i won’t forget where i’m from
so far i have come
so far i have gone
