i miss my grandpa
he died a year ago
i have a last memory of him
from his last christmas evening
he wanted to show me something
a crossbow carved out of old wood
hanging in his garage
with arrows that looked like b-tter knives
but with arrowheads from darts
he hung on a dartboard on the wall and i tried it myself
it almost cut the board in half
it was an excellent construction
fine-tuned to near perfection
i asked him what it was for
but he didn’t say anything
or maybe it was his hearing
and we shook hands like we always did
ever since i was a little kid

and on my way home
the snow started falling
and i had more than a question
i really wanted to get to know him
