[verse 1]
i’d love to drive foot sleepin’ on the gas
but i can’t ’cause every other car past
eleven o’clock is prolly a cop, tell me to stop
got me watchin’ out for lights on my dash
i’d love to stay up ’till 4am
i’d love to pull up with k’s and m’s
i’d love some props like eminem got
all the time on his climb before the 2010s
it’d be cool to have the highest end clothes
it’d be nice to run the highest end shows
it’d be nice to front like n0body knows me
but i’m just a normal kid
guess that’s what its supposed to be
already wrote for me
in a book, like i am what i’m supposed to be
take a look though, ’cause i ain’t even close to free
and honestly that ‘i’ is prolly closer to ‘we’
look i don’t have a problem with schools
or strict rules, or police guys tryin’ not to make the news
i guess it’s more about the things we choose
to prioritise, and where we choose to tell our lies
’cause n0body ever thinks ‘too safe’ is a bad thing
n0body ever thinks about how
a little bit of strugglin’ can help to shift the power
out the hands of the rich
into the hands of the powerless
doomed in the end by their fates
think about the life that surrounds you, this place
produces people like the creator of facebook
produces billionaires like bill gates
who both went to harvard, ’cause they could afford the rates
and as much work they’ve done, how much dirt they’ve won
will always define their fate
in the eyes of the world, before great or kind
they’ll be rich
forever to all minds, that is the word that describes their short time
they’ll be rich
’cause in a town without struggle, whose world can i improve but mine
i’ll be rich
unlike mlk, who came from the bottom to end the war on race
i’ll be rich
unlike lbj, who built a school where he grew up, out of his own grace
i’ll be rich
and you can be rich too
and you can be rich too

[verse 2]
and we grew up sheltered too
took me seventeen years to understand the truth
when you wearin’ a jacket and some heavier boots
the cold don’t bite like it usually do
metaphorically speaking it’s deplorable seeking
luxuries beyond warm clothes when there’s people on the streets weepin’
people out there freezin’ their toes off
while your clothes hang in the closet, closed off
this is where i start to wonder
this is where my heart beat’s rollin’ like thunder
this is where my mind state’s on the crime rate
and my mind’s fate
wonderin’ if i understand the right path for me
whether it’s a slow or fast dash for me
whether it’s a life of fast cash for me
or a life that i’d be proud to see, helpin’ people who actually
need somebody out here doin’ charity
instead of learnin’ molarity
or livin’ hypocrisy in this democracy
i ain’t blamin’ you, ’cause corruption is hard to see
but it wasn’t our fault to begin with
’cause n0body gets to choose who they kin with
and it really ain’t the parents fault, i don’t dare insult
the people who thought this through when they were children
and made the choice to give away their life to a husband or wife
just so that their children could live away from strife
and grow up to afford the price of a college education
so we can raise our kids in the same persuasion
but even in that sacrifice we still pay the price of the people missin’
from our proclaimed equation
i think the problem must come from the system
where we run from the wisdom ’cause we all on a mission
for contentment
which is only a symptom of ignorin’ the victims
on our short climb up to commencement, and beyond
you should be afraid of the bond between cheats and fat checks
i can see a way to the top between streets and projects
achievements only made real if you not blessed
’cause i’ve never done a thing on my own, never been in the zone
except this album
i wonder as i write these lines, forever to all minds
what is the word that describes my short time
and this story of mine, i have nothing to tell
except the tale of a kid who had a whole lotta help
and a whole lotta time
and a song to fill
with a past that doesn’t matter and a future that will
