in the second century bc, judah and his maccabees led a revolt against the evil ruler king antiochus who forced the jews to kneel before zeus! outraged, the maccabees fought many battles, lost many men but eventually restored the glory of the second temple back to jerusalem. triumphant and proud, judah forged the first dreidel as a reminder of these dark days and commanded his people to go forth throughout the villages of thе world to spin their mighty dreidels oncе a year to remember their victory. and so we sing

forged from fire clay and steel in the tradition of the elders who battled to be free. brave warriors the maccabees want you to spin this day!

hold your dreidels high then spin them on the ground. keep it up the longest to make your elders proud. spin the dreidel on this hanukkah day to keep the twisted beasts of h_ll away
