verse 1:

let me take you way back to my early years
a violent journey, full of blood, sweat and tears
i grew up in a town they called zvornik
my village high up in the hills called bukovik
situated on the banks of the river drina
welcome to bosnia and hercegovina
before the war, my family lived a normal life
i went to school learning my language to read and write
used to go to the mosque and learn the prayers
and walk back home greeting my serbian neighbours
i was too young to know what the difference is
and back then we were just innocent little kids
then the war came so my fam had to flee
i couldn’t comprehend why they wanna murder me
we were cleansed out, made to leave our motherland
and the home my father built with his own hands

chorus:

my life – is an everyday battle when your living in a foreign land
my life – when i look into the mirror i dont even know who iam
my life – is a lonely road, im a long way away from home
my life – to my culture i hold on tight and i will never let it go

verse 2:

i stepped off the plane in the land we arrived in
dublin city, in the republic of ireland
cherry orchard i will always remember it
thats where we stayed before they put us on a benefit
i went to school and learned to speak english
but from day one i felt like a misfit
cuz i was different a refugee
could never really fit in no-one related to me
and my education was in a foreign tongue
and as the years go by you forget where your from
plus i left home young, never knew about my roots
no cl-ssroom lesson on the balkan fueds
my land full of weapons and men in army suits
everynight i would see it on the 6 oclock news
i was losing my culture, along with my language
like who am i where do i belong on this planet

chorus

verse 3:

i became a citizen of the land i was living in
got the p-ssport but still didn’t feel equivelent
still an immigrant a product of a war
look at the birthplace written in your p-ssport
how many times you gotta spell your name for someone
how many times somebody ask you where you come from
how many times have you been told to go back
do you really feel like your are..where you belong at
tell me why your ashamed of your muslim name
its an insult to the pain your people overcame
tell me why you dont even know your background
living overseas but your culture you lack now
where is home, home is where the heart is
regardless of where your at, remember where you started
the reason you departed and why it got you where you at
where you come from, always remember that
