i see new churches that really start to grow
and even some older dead ones that get caught in the flow
because they’ve got a new pastor that really sets ’em on fire
and the power of the spirit starts anointing with a holy ghost flow

then right away they start electing a board of deacons for the flock
and a bunch of great elders, whether qualified or not
then the pastor starts losin’ all his leadership role
but the deacons arе a_movin’ and the elders arе a_comin’ on slow

then they all start to arguin’ about who’s runnin’ what
and the flock is bewildered, and the bible, it just gets lost
in theology and doctrines, over choir robes and tongues
but the deacons and the elders are so cool ’cause satan
he’s to blame for this mess

and i do believe that kind of church gets deacon possessed
and the pastor who set ’em on fire gets fired instead of blessed
and god’s scratchin’ his head ’cause he knows jesus is king
but they’re deacon possessed and, honey, they think they’re doin’ their thing

so if you’ve got a young new church or an old one that’s revived
ya better keep your eyes on jesus and that pastor and his wife
’cause if they’re really anointed, your church is gonna be blessed
but you’re headed for h_ll when your church gets deacon possessed
and if you ain’t careful, your church will get deacon possessed
and the national headquarters is all that’s gonna get blessed
and the sheep, they’ll be starvin’ for god’s word and his light
’cause if your church is deacon possessed, you’re headed for that eternal night

now i love every deacon and every elder everywhere
but your leader is that pastor, god and jesus put him there
so stand with him and beside him, don’t fight him in god’s work
’cause the records of the deacons and the elders too
are gonna be in judgement’s book

and if you ain’t careful, your church can get deacon possessed
and the church’ll dissolve like a grease spot on a dress
and they’ll be closin’ the doors, and god will hang his head
so deacons and elders, believe this is what god has said

and if you ain’t careful, your church’ll get deacon possessed
and that national headquarters is all that’s gonna get blessed
and the sheep, they’ll be starving for god’s word and his light
so christians, don’t slip and let your church
