[verse 1]
on a cold night in february in 1981
in a night club called the stardust a fire had begun
people from the neighbourhood saw flames light up the sky
while the young folk on the dance floor, oblivious at the time
fire raged and the lights went out, it was hard to find the doors
the place filled up with a thick black smokes, oh the panic, screams and roars

the fire in the stardust claimed forty_eight young lives
and the hundreds of survivors all still haunted by that night
these where ordinary working class young people at the ball
families lived happy lives until that dreaded call
left to live with emptiness, anger, hurt and blame
for who in the name of jesus left them fire exits chained?
ever since that awful night, its never been the same
the nightmares don’t go away, reminded everyday
over forty years of torture, the stigma, hurt and shame
yet they let these families fall apart, while no one got the blame

[chorus]
and they never gave up fighting for all of those who died
for the families and the warriors who suffered since that night
and they never gave up fighting, until the truth was told
to the families, to the warriors, for the forty_eight young souls

[verse 2]
when you sat there and questioned their innocent demise
branded them as arsons and destroyed so many lives
yet you dangled out the carrot, tried to gag them with your pay
tried to brush it under the carpet in a very callous way
like a hurricane, the stardust ripped through every family’s core
wreaking havoc and devastation, when the aftermath’s still raw
with the cover ups, denials, false promises and deceit
driven mad by the torment you brought mothers to their knees
as charlie bird had always said, because of where your from
you should of never waited all these years for justice to be won
with bravery and persistence, they fought a long hard fight
a war against injustice for the forty_eight who died
while the angels live in heaven, and the families lived through h_ll
through every painful second until the truth for them to tell
when the jury reached the verdict, oh, the verdict they all longed
they said unlawful k!lling, but why’d it take so long?

[chorus]
and they never gave up fighting for all of those who died
for the families and the warriors who suffered since that night
and they never gave up fighting, until the truth was told
to the families, to the warriors, for the forty_eight young souls
and they never gave up fighting for all of those who died
for the families and the warriors who suffered since that night
and they never gave up fighting, until the truth was told
to the families, to the warriors, for the forty_eight young souls
