djay kennedy - oreo fest 2015 press coverage (dj oreo vs metro boomin) كلمات الأغنية
when we first received our confirmation email for oreo fest i was ecstatic to say the least. literally 3 hours before doors opened i got the gmail notification on my phone it looked like the piece of mail i had been waiting for all day. sitting in fox valley mall in zumiez with my friends i open the message to see that mindset music has been confirmed to cover the media for oreo fest. i let timmy know immediately and we both took off and got ready to go at a speed faster than twista’s flow
we drove to the event and when we first got there it was super cold and icy weather at the portage theatre in the north side portage park neighborhood and we really weren’t keen on standing outside very long especially since i left my coat in the car so i could sport my mindset apparel for all the fans of both us and oreo fest to see. also waiting outside with us was a multi media company by the name of hvstle. we had a short chat with their media rep about the event and both our companies before we were let into the venue. the venue was a pretty big venue but m-ssive compared to what we were used to. the venues i was used to sponsoring and providing media coverage for usually held around 100 people while this one was a legit theatre that held thousands, i knew then and there i was in for a life changing experience
there are 3 lines, 1 for attendees younger than 21, another for older than 21 and the third and shortest line was for media reps. we walk up to the table which was run by sw-nk publishing who also along with bread & b-tter put the event together. we show them our press contracts and give our names to which they then referred to a list to look for us. it was then to my surprise that we weren’t on the list. nervous with my hands shaking i pulled out my phone and hastily showed them the email as proof that we were chosen to help cover the event. luckily, that was enough proof for them and we received our wristbands and made it into the venue
when we made our way down the long aisle and into the press box or pit as many called it, we noticed we were some of the first ones there which was pretty cool to say the least. timmy took out his equipment and started to set up while i made it a priority to take lots of pictures to keep as memories. about 10-20 minutes later a few other media crews came in and that was when i met lasalle the owner of runaway media. it’s pretty safe to say lasalle is one of the nicest guys i’ve met in this compet-tive, rigorous industry. to be honest most guys i have come across are either stuck up jerks or snakes who are only in the game for the money. so, it was a nice refresher to meet someone who is not like that. we talked about our two companies and our personal struggles getting the media positions due to not receiving the email till only a few hours before the event. around the same time i also met an unexpected guest who happened to be saba’s brother. he told us this in a very calm “no big deal” manner and he was a super cool guy who did nothing short of hyping up the crowd and turning up himself throughout the night. as if it couldn’t get any more lit, lyrical lemonade founder/owner cole bennett also made an appearance as well as both prime fortune founders tyler and brandon brown. 4 of some of chicago’s biggest media outlets all in one place…lit to say the least, and right on schedule the show began
we were first greeted by dj oreo himself whose first special guest was no other than malcolm london. spoken word artist and chicago’s greatest activist, malcolm delivered an inspiring speech preaching to us about the police brutality chicago citizens face every day in our city and how in order to prove the system wrong we need to overcome the stereotypes we face and better ourselves through peace and positivity. we then were blessed with performances by savemoney members dally auston, sterling hayes, brian fresco and more of some of the cities greatest talent. during these performances there was a sp-ce in between the stage and a gate and behind the gate was where the audience was and in that sp-ce was where media went. all of the media sponsors filed into that sp-ce and got super turnt to all these performances and brian fresco even mobbed with us in the media section as well! unfortunately, right before sicko mobb’s set began the venue security and police went crazy moving all of us out of the media section and pushed us into the audience due to fans jumping the gate and trying to pretend they were media. every single media sponsor was fighting with authority and i completely missed sicko mobb’s set! various fights broke out, some sponsors were kicked out and there was even one particular security card who was threatening to hit a woman. i was disgusted to say the least and lucky for us they let all media crews in that were carrying a camera. unfortunately that meant i wasn’t allowed in whether i had credentials or not
p-ssed off but not about to waste time dealing with securities b.s. i went over to a clear elevated sp-ce got up on a ledge and had arguably the best view of the venue overlooking the whole crowd. i wasn’t even mad security wouldn’t let me back in, timmy was in there getting the footage and i was still able to enjoy the music. what was even better was i ran into a popular local artist and friend of mine, tibby and i didn’t feel alone at all whatsoever. from my ledge of power, i had clear views of martin sky, saba, katie got bandz, joey purp, and towkio’s performances and it was amazing. it was then time for metro boomin to make his appearance blasting “thought it was a drought” through the 95 year old venues speakers. as if it couldn’t get any more crazy, oreo dropped the bomb on all of us by bringing lil durk out to perform “bang bros” and “dis ain’t what you want”. it was an amazing conclusion to not only oreo fest but also a fantastic year for hip hop in chicago. oreo couldn’t have said it better himself, “oreo fest is about unity, love, and all these people of different races and ages coming together,”. thank you oreo, for the experience of a lifetime
