[verse 1]
i look at ‘em now and i can’t help but laugh
the memories scattered in those photographs
grandma had ‘em up everywhere on every shelf
and every single one had a story to tell
if we’d ask her “who’s that?” she’d dust off a frame
and take us on a walk down memory lane

[verse 2]
we’d be standin’ on the banks of vietnam
in the summer of ’70 with my old man
wavin’ to the camera, fightin’ for uncle sam
or holdin’ that barracuda on the boat
when mom was just a kid off the california coast
it broke her pole, so she drug that fish in hand over hand
in those photographs

[verse 3]
we could spend a sat-rday curled up on the floor
as gram’d tell tales we’d never heard before
yeah she’d make lemonade and then she’d fill our gl-ss
with lessons in life we’d never learn in cl-ss
it was better than any movie on tv
we would hang on every word as she painted the scenes

[verse 4]
we’d be standin’ on the field with the football team
holdin’ up a trophy, livin’ the dream
it was the first state t-tle this little town had ever seen (or has ever seen)
or sittin’ on the top of the hoover dam
bandanas on our heads, shovels in hand
you know my great grand daddy i look just like was a piece of that
in those photographs

[verse 5]
from the proms to the parties, to picnics and plays
all the backyard barbecues and basketball games
every pic was a round-trip ticket into the past
i never realized when we’d stop for a pose
all it would mean to us all down the road
or just how long those memories were gonna last
the good, the bad, the best times we ever had
in those photographs
