(verse)
let me take you back
to where it all began
when being a rapper
wasn’t even part of the plan
but when it came to hip hop music
i was always a fan
and i’m always going to be
the best i possibly can
the journey first started
back in march, 2019
the days i liked to be private
and tried not to be seen
when i had an english -ssignment
aka a presentation
i chose to write a rap
with a lot of hesitation
because i was afraid of all
of the conversation
about my choice to rap
in my latest situation
my rap was about my
f a m i l y
everything i said was true
yeah, it wasn’t a lie
i mean the word family
can have multiple definitions
i’m glad i rapped my song
and put myself in that position
i just kept telling myself
it was a hip hop audition
to treat it like a compet-tion
and ignore the opposition
i remember sitting in cl-ss
with a jacket over my face
afraid of what people would think
and i felt out of place
my rap wasn’t explicit
it’s a very rare style
it was the beginning
of my hip hop profile
but just to be heard
was a positive trial
and at the end of the day
i can’t help myself but smile
got my result back
around 95 per cent
aka an a grade
trust me that mark i won’t forget
a couple of months later
we have to write a protest song
i did mine about our people
who i felt were done wrong
who through all of these years
have managed to stay strong
why can’t we come together
as a unit and belong
i rapped over pound cake
a make or break moment
against all the racists in our world
aka my opponents
i stood up in front of the cl-ss
and said what i said
stuff as deep as how i believe
all racists should be dead
in my main cl-ss
i only have 1 proper friend
someone i can talk to
and even commend
we bonded over music
it’s what brought us together
and my brother from another mother
is more than clever
he’s also the producer
the man behind the beats
the guy who supplies the heat
for me week on week
he’s the guy who helped me turn
my dream into reality
he gave me so much help
he gave me so much charity
so thank you to all the legends
who have paved the way
from hip-hop to r&b
and even reggae
so please listen to me now
i’ve got something to say
big son’s in the game
and i’m here to stay;
