stored on microfiche

i looked in vain for his dismissive revews

and
that’s the worst kind of dismissiveness of all

i know i saw that first ad in rolling stone
bеcause i bought the debut album
i had to ordеr it from budget tapes and records
in charleston west virginia
back when i was a baby glam rock hillbilly hippie
cuz
anything that smacked of bowie was for me
(yee_haw!)

and then years later
christian reminded me about an article
where the headline was a quote from jobriath saying
bowie pretends to be gay. i am a true fairy
(a fairy? a fairy?)
(a beautiful sensitive magical fairy?)
(a fairy!)

(oooh_oh_oh the fairies!)
yeah we don’t serve f_gs in here, buddy!

oh…
he was just too far out
and out
for his time

still
jobriath was being pushed to do more and more sp_ce stuff
and
they all flew out to la to tape the midnight special, which
turned out to be a big embarassment
and…

(oh, christ, this medley is longer than jobriath’s career…)

anyhoo
the story goes that on the plane back
jobriath fell asleep on his hand
and when they landed in new york
well you know
you know how when you sleep on your hand
it gets all tingley and…
and paralyzed_like and
and then…
he tried to move it and
and it
wouldn’t move
and
and
and he couldn’t play
and that ended the whole thing
now whether he was really crippled
or just crippled inside
no one knows
but it was over
and jobriath suffered some kind of nervous breakdown
and
and then he disappeared
into oblivion
